 11.1.2023  ROOM ELEVEN : Confrontation

You confront Clay directly.

"You disappeared then a monster was here which attracted me, then it disappeared and you returned. I've seen too many horror movies to believe that was a coincidence. You are the monster! The night-haunt its you!"

Clay sits down.

"No. I am not a night-haunt." He says.

"You can't prove it!" You reply. "How can I trust you?"

Clay takes off his shirt and shows you healed scars across his body. “Razor-claws made by a night-haunt. It swept me up in its wings. My brother killed it. He threw that axe as it flew away with me in its claws. That was a year ago. I was lucky to survive.”

You feel simultaneously bad about accusing Clay of being a night-haunt when he has been scarified by one himself, or so he says. You also feel like he might still be lying. "There are stories from my world of creatures which turn you into one of them by biting you." You say, thinking of vampires and werewolves.

"I cannot prove it to ye unless that thing comes back. Here, give me the axe ye can have the sword but I will show ye how to use it properly. Are ye fit to fight?"

Clay demonstrates to you some basic sword moves for blocking and thrusting, slashing and dodging. "Fighting is all in the foot-work as much as the wrist." He says.

You still don't trust him despite his effort to ease your mind.

"We won't sleep again tonight anyway. We need wood for fire so we might as well start walking. We head North-West toward the forest edge along our way. What do you say?"

You can go with Clay, or part company.

Go North-West with Clay.

Go South toward the Port alone

Go East toward the Hills alone
